The village shop can supply most essentials and a range of local produce. It also functions as a post office and newsagent.
Over the hill to the west, Cerne Abbas Stores opens later (until c.8.00 pm) and operates a deli, off-licence, video store, post office and grocers.
Dorchester (7 miles south) has the full range of high street shops and supermarkets.

There are 4 pubs in the village: The Poachers (2 minutes away ), The Piddle Inn (can be reached along the bridleway), The Thimble, and The European Inn (South-West Dining Pub of the Year 2007). There is another, The Brace of Pheasants, in the hamlet of Plush, a pleasant walk away over the hill.
