The village shop can supply most essentials and a range of local produce. It also functions as a post office and newsagent.
Up the valley, in Buckland Newton, the Old Chapel Stores are more conveniently open on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
Over the hill to the west, Cerne Abbas Stores are open until c.8.00 pm and operate a deli, off-licence, video store, post office and grocers.
Dorchester (7 miles south) has the full range of high street shops and supermarkets.
There are 3 pubs in the valley: The Poachers (2 minutes away ), The Piddle Inn (can
be reached along the bridleway),and The Thimble (on the northern edge of Piddlehinton).
Until recently there was a fourth: The European Inn which is currently empty. There
is also The Brace of Pheasants in the hamlet of Plush, a pleasant walk away over
the hill. Further up the valley, in Buckland Newton, there is The Gaggle of Geese
(Best Local Pub in the Taste of Dorset Awards 2011).
